Total Calories per Serving 600 calories
Ingredients:
1 cup masoor dal (red lentils), rinsed
2 cups water
1 medium onion, finely chopped
2 tomatoes, finely chopped
2-3 cloves garlic, minced
1-inch piece of ginger, grated
2 green chilies, slit (optional, adjust to taste)
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon Kashmiri red chili powder (adjust to taste)
1 teaspoon coriander powder
1/2 teaspoon garam masala
Salt to taste
2 tablespoons oil or ghee
Fresh coriander curry leaves for garnishing
Instructions:
Prepare the Lentils:
Rinse the masoor dal under running water until the water runs clear. Drain before using.
Cook the Lentils:
In a pressure cooker or pot, add the soaked and drained masoor dal along with 2 cups of water.
Add Green Chilies
Add chopped onions
Add Tomatoes
Add Water
Add Oil
Add Salt
Add Turmeric Powder
Add Kashmiri Powder
Add Coriander Powder
Add Garam Masala
Pressure cook for about 4-5 whistles or cook in a pot until the lentils are soft and fully cooked.
Temper the Dal:
Heat oil or ghee in a separate pan over medium heat.
Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
Add minced garlic, grated ginger, curry leaves, and Heeng powder. Sauté for a minute until fragrant.
Simmer:
Let the dal simmer for a few minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together. Adjust the consistency by adding more water if needed.
Garnish with freshly chopped Curry leaves.
Serve hot with steamed rice or roti.
